Facebook shared a pair of impressive new user milestones today as the company answered questions about its surprising acquisition of Oculus Rift.
The company, which has invested heavily into developing software for
mobile devices, now has 1 billion active monthly users of its apps, up
from 945 million in December, CEO Mark Zuckerberg told analysts on a
conference call.
Zuckerberg also said that Instagram now has more than 200 million users, up from 100 million when Facebook bought the company almost two years ago and 150 million the last time the company updated its user figures publicly.
The figure represents healthy growth for the photo-sharing network,
which Facebook has allowed to develop mostly independently since the
acquisition. Its success likely helped persuade the founders of Oculus
Rift that their own company would maintain a degree of independence even
after becoming part of the world's biggest social network.
